In today's fast-paced world, where the pursuit of success and financial stability often takes precedent over one's well-being, the adage "Health is Wealth" holds true. Individuals and families must prioritize their health and take proactive steps to maintain optimal physical and mental health.
Take the initiative this March to schedule routine medical check-ups, as early detection of any health issues can greatly improve the chances of successful treatment and recovery. Adopting healthy eating habits is also an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes the importance of good nutrition in promoting a healthy lifestyle and lowering the risk of serious health issues like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. A nutritious diet can also help those with chronic conditions manage their symptoms and reduce the risk of complications.
A well-balanced and nutritious diet not only protects against illness but also provides the body with the energy and nutrients it requires to function properly. The primary sources of energy for the body are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, and consuming good carbohydrates, such as those found in whole-grain bread and starchy vegetables, can provide sustained energy throughout the day. It is also critical to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, as this aids in the transport of nutrients throughout the body.
The Importance of Sexual Health Awareness Month
If you recently took a pregnancy test and the results were positive, you probably have a lot on your mind. The next step for many expectant mothers is to make a doctor’s appointment to make sure that they receive the care necessary to deliver a health child.
Prenatal care, usually called care you receive while pregnant, should begin as soon as possible and certainly within the first 3 months.  Prenatal care is one of the most significant ways to lower your risk of experiencing difficulties during pregnancy.  Greater Family Health understands the importance of providing accessible and affordable prenatal care services to all expectant mothers.
We are proud to offer quality prenatal care services via our Physicians to help ensure that all pregnancies are healthy.  Prenatal care services are provided in our Health Centers in Elgin, McHenry, Palatine, Streamwood, and Wheeling.  We also perform deliveries and surgeries at several area hospitals.

    Celebrating National Recovery Month
On Wednesday, January 25th, 2023, Greater Family Health and Senior Services Associates brought a one-of-a-kind experience to the seniors of Elgin and the surrounding area. The two organizations hosted Drag Bingo at the Senior Services Associates’ Senior Center in Elgin to promote and encourage inclusive and welcoming community events.
“By hosting Drag Bingo, our goal was two-fold: we wanted to create an event where local LGBTQ+ seniors felt represented, safe, and welcome, and where our senior community could experience – and enjoy! – an important piece of LGBTQ+ culture in a fun, accessible manner.  Through our programming representing marginalized groups, we want our senior center environment to convey a message loud and clear – “Every single senior is welcome, every single senior is valued, and every single senior has a place here at Senior Services,” said Senior Services Associates Activity Coordinator, Cat Alfonso.
The Senior Center was decorated with bright rainbow colors and balloon arches, creating a pathway for more than 80 community members congregated to eat lunch, mingle with each other, and enjoy drag queen Windy Breeze’s fun spirit and personality. Despite the snowy weather, seniors arrived and settled into their seats. Senior Services Associates and an Elgin resident who wishes to remain anonymous but wanted to show his support provided coffee and donuts! Before the start of Bingo, seniors could connect with community agencies and their representatives during the resource fair.
Afterward, lunch was served, and the fun began!

Alongside the purchased books for patients, Jack and Jill of America Inc. volunteers wrote encouraging notes about the importance of reading and decorated bags with words of inspiration and affirmations of hope.
