About Us
Every writer needs an editor. Here's why I'm your guy:
I was an editor for 35 of an almost 40-year career at the Daily Herald, third-largest newspaper in Illinois. I edited stories of professionally trained newspaper reporters, work that won numerous journalism awards. I also wrote an award-winning column for more than two decades, so I haven't lost the writer's perspective.
I also recruited and edited the work of people from all walks of life who had never written for a newspaper. The professionals and novices who worked with me will tell you I have strong technical skills, know how to make writing ''sing'' and that I'm passionate about my craft. I'm also a good mentor, fun to work with. Today, I'm applying those skills as a freelance editor, working on everything from memoirs to novels to stories about businessHighlights

View Personal BioJim DavisAfter a 40-year career, mostly as an editor at the Daily Herald, I work as a freelance editor, providing developmental, content, and copy edits for TypeRight Editing (https://typerightediting.com/). I've edited memoirs; dystopian, suspense, and romance novels; professional athlete biographies; and non-fiction works on real estate, plastic surgery, politics, and foreign policy. Clients have publicly affirmed my editing has improved their work, and that I'm fun to work with.
Coming soon: Personal history books. Margaret Brady, a seasoned and engaging interviewer, will meet with clients to video record their personal histories. I will turn the transcript into a compelling first- or third-person narrative life story. Margaret and I will create a professional-caliber keepsake book with an option to include photos.Jim DavisFreelance editor- Phone: (630) 415-6101
